Applicant for Hire

I am a professional applicant. Meron bang ganon?

I’ve applied for so many jobs that I’ve stopped having nosebleeds every time I take pre-employment tests. I’ve been to so many interviews that I’ve stopped stalling like a Miss Universe candidate with a fake smile looking for the answer that will give me the crown and not the worthless runner-up sash. I’ve been to so many companies in so many years that my interview clothes have gone out of fashion and my interview shoes have lost their soles. I’ve been to every company in between the small donut shop in CDO’s divisoria to the gleaming new company by the sea in Tagoloan. This is what it means to be a professional applicant.

Some say I’ve been too picky, but really, how can I work for a manager who talks about s*x on a job interview, an executive who asks me to cooperate with evading labor laws and a business owner who demands that I pretend to be pretty on duty? Kulang nalang nay magpa demonstrate sa akong skills sa pagtimpla sa kape o sa pole dancing ba kaha. Sure, others have accepted jobs under similar circumstances but I just can’t. So call me sosyal if you want but I want a good job with a great boss and fair pay.

It’s been years and the job I’ve been looking for is nowhere in sight. I must either be really unlucky or too ugly for consideration but I haven’t lost hope. I’ll fulfill my dream someday (when pigs fly and Pacman is president) and while waiting for that time, I’ll be standing by here, writing about my escapades as a professional applicant. You might want to write about your experiences too. Send them to Ninah at admin@misorjobs.com or virtualediting@gmail.com.

sweetheart, maybe now your idealism is so high but in the real world good job+great boss+fair pay its a bit endangered 🙂 ako pa nimo simplify your ideals and gain plenty experience para you’ll have options. you will realize later that not so tamili sa trabaho pay back and you’ll be rewarded in time. friendly advice, just have patience and have more and buy more patience…

i was also like you before i got the real sense of what really is job. good luck

I just thought of this now Shobe. I guess it is good advice not to be “tamili” but it certainly is not acceptable to work for a boss who makes s**ual innuendos or one who asks you to step on the rights of other people. Deciding to work for the former is not a safe decision while opting to work for the latter is a blatant disregard of what is morally right.

I think diskarte na lang jud ta ane.. we were just like the same finding a good job and fair pay, unfortunately i can,t find.. and also it added the overburden of the dislikes of my course .. I don’t want to be an electrician but how did I end up with this,? probably just following my friend and the wants to have a degree… This makes me think to apply in other country even if it is not related to my job.. coz i’m already suffering to much here in cdo.. gusto na rba unta na ko mag ka family pero walay kwarta..

Hehe. Actually Pam, there are so many different factors that could have affected the outcome of the hiring. Maybe the interviewer really liked you but your friends stood out because of some quality they had that you don’t… Also, many recruiters are polite and will not tell you outright that you’re not the one.

Of course, I’m not discounting the fact that some recruiters aren’t always fair.

hmm.. I graduated from a reputable school in our country. I took engineering degree and passed the board exam..for a couple of years of job hopping I finally am working in a biggest/top company here in cdo. Now you might say that im so lucky to be succesful in landing a job, well I dont think so. The nature of my current job is solely LABOR. Think of what a production worker does. Lifting and piling some heavy materials even cleaning the areas and equipments, and driving forklifts are our daily routines. The job is moraly degrading. I couldnt take the risks of leaving because I have mouths to feed and a family to support. But still, im not losing hope of finding another job that would fit my education. Yet, still thankful to God for not being unemployed. For having this job that could provide the needs of my family.

My advise to those applicants specially fresh grads and unexperienced: Look for a job that would fit to your interests and education. Dont mind if the pay is low, gather some skills and experience, study and become an expert in what you do. So then you can find an employer that could provide your demand on salary and benefits.

I think you guys missed the point. The point she’s making is never give up your principles just so you can land a job. Let’s be serious, if you were in her shoes, I think you’d be turned off if a manager constantly made moves to get in your pants or to tell you to evade labor laws.

“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.” –Proverbs 16:8

Frankly, I can emphathize because I’m in the same boat as hers. By reading most of the responses here, it gives the impression that Pinoys will forego their principles just to land a job. I feel sorry, for the lot of you if that’s the case. I’d rather not have a job if it entails getting trying to swindle your fellow man or prostitute yourself.

I’m a fresh graduate and currently looking for “the job for me” I’m quite relieved to have read this post because I can surely relate to this one at the moment. I graduated from a reputable school in CDO , a student-leader with ideals and aspirations as high as the eagle’s soar.

For my 1st job I only lasted for 4 months and decided to render my resignation. The nature of that job is outsourcing and I worked everyday in the graveyard shift. The work was quite different from my degree , I am a communication graduate working in a medical processing company — definitely that’s quite a mismatch isn’t it? There were also some other reasons for my resignation , like the management is unprofessional at times and the salary doesn’t compensate the weight of the work. Even though my own parents were not supportive about my plan , I decided for myself.

After 2 months of looking for a new job , numbers of interviews and exams, I still didn’t land a job. Honestly, I can say that one of the reason is that I am filtering job offers. I got a job from a hotel as a front desk officer, but then I didn’t come to my 1st day of training. It’s because from my interview with the boss I found out right away why the hotel’s employees do not stay long. The Boss is a walking stress-inducing-moral-degrading being. So no job for me, and Christmas is coming Oh so near.I’m starting get depressed and feeling inefficient given that almost all of my classmates already have a stable job and I am not helping my family as what I have intended to after I graduate.

Just today I’ve recieved an email, saying that I am hired as a part-time writer for a BPO company. Thank heavens, I can now have a little income while searching for “the job for me” and I stand firm that I will not work just for the sake of working, after all I believe that our principles make us what we are and it is relative to one’s self-fulfillment and happiness.

    Happy Job Hunting Everyone!

Right now I’m looking for a job that suits my qualification and experience. Mostly sa mga trabahong pinapasukan ko is related to sales since after graduating college in an exclusive university here in CDO. A total of 5 companies i’ve work in a span of 3 years in a short term basis. The reason why I didn’t last long on those companies I’ve work is due to low amount of compensation I received majority of it is bellow minimum salary.

Its really hard for me to find job that has great compensation and benifits. Also I regret that I finished my course that is not in demand. That’s why my only consolation to land a suitable job is my wide work experience.

I do hope that God will Bless me to find a great job..:)

I feel the same feeling after i graduate from a reputable university in cdo. Well, having too much confidence I applied for a Supervisory/ Managerial position. I know I do not have the edge over other applicants because I do not have any experience yet. Receiving a call for being chosen to be part of final interviews boost my self-confidence to the highest level, indeed. 😉
My friends find it ridiculous though but they soon realized the underlying reasons of doing so.

When I’ve got my 1st job it lasted only for a week. I don’t like my officemates. Well, seniority complex! It is so stressful as I was trained for the job in just one day. How can i remember everything taught?! The Manager is always out, while trying to deal w/ counterproductive “seniors”. 2nd job (3 weeks), 3rd job (1 yr), 4th job (1 yr) the same thing happened. I cannot see myself working with such unfriendly atmosphere. So resigning is the best option. Then, I received a call from an academic institution, i was immediately hired as part of a research team. It was perfect! good compensation+ideal boss+friendly colleagues. But it only lasts for 12 months. A new manager has been appointed and started to take the meal, fare and board allowances and put it on his own pocket. How did I know? Well, the manager accidentally left his documents open for free reading while he was asking for funding from the Finance on his travel expenses. (what a shame on him!) Haist! life of an employee.

Nevertheless, God is really good! a week after separation from the institution, i was hired in a Manila based company. I stayed for 9 months only as i received a call from a big company w/c offered much higher pay and benefits.

From job hunting to having a full time job is really an accomplishment for a dreamer who dreams to land in a good job after graduation from a reputable university. Positive attitude+self confidence+trusting God is the key. Just a piece of advice, “if you dream, dream big” work everything out and you’ll realize that everything is worth a try. Just don’t forget that if money really matters, EXPERIENCE is the ALAS!

Looking back, a neophyte applying for a managerial position has been very challenging and a huge try. Now, fear for rejection on a job (managerial to be specific) has no room.

    Ad Majorem De Gloriam. Magis!

Im a fresh graduate and really having a hard time to get hired. Haist! Its not really easy….I hope I could finally find a job that suits my interest and qualification. So stessful na pag tambay ka then your friends and other classmates were being hired already. I cant help but to compare myself from them. I hope and pray that God has plans for me. ????

I have a lot of realizations after reading all your comments and I would like to share my story too. There are a lot of opportunities waiting for me after graduating but I turned it all down because I wanted to have a job near my hometown which is far away from CDO. I got my 1st job in a prestigious company – good compensation + friendly officemates but stayed for only 2 months because I think the nature of the job is really tiring (physically and emotionally)due to endless OT (working from 8am to almost 12Midnight or 7:30 pm. After resigning, I did not immediately apply for another job,and now (almost a year later)I am planning to go back in CDO this August and work there. I am too late to apply there and be hired?
